Nokiiwin Tribal Council Tourism Development Strategy
CES was honoured to design a one-of-a-kind overarching five-year tourism development strategy for the five first nations of Nokiiwin Tribal Council. The strategy supports the sustainable growth of their communities by helping them take their first step into responsible tourism development that focuses on land, people, and culture. Reflecting the words, hopes, and wishes of community members, this strategy was founded upon shared values and focused on a grassroots and holistic approach for tourism growth.
The project resulted in the creation of a strategy that encompassed all of the Nokiiwin communities’ shared voices and goals, as well as their unique aspirations. The strategy prioritized holistic growth that focused on social, economic, environmental, and cultural benefits for the five communities. It presented solutions where the five nations can work together as one to support each other and grow as a destination for authentic Indigenous experiences in Northern Ontario. CES went above and beyond in developing an asset database that inspired the development of a printed and digital interactive map, highlighting the gems and tourism assets across the five communities. This project provided Nokiiwin with the steppingstone, a tangible and easily adaptable plan to begin to walk their path forward in tourism development.
