Blackfoot Confederacy Tourism Asset Mapping
CES was hired by the Blackfoot Confederacy Tribal Council to develop an Indigenous tourism asset database and map with the goal of helping to identify the region’s tourism businesses, cultural and natural features, and new opportunities for tourism development. The project used a grassroots approach to engage Indigenous community members, tourism businesses, and youth in all four nations of the region. This inclusive strategy ensured the database and map accurately reflected the communities’ assets and aspirations.
A printed map and brochure were created using customized icons and unique branding, and eight self-guided thematic routes were designed to encourage exploration and support for local businesses. An interactive online map that is accessible on all devices was also created, showcasing these Indigenous experiences. The project fostered stronger connections and awareness of the region’s offerings, identified necessary infrastructure and resources for welcoming visitors, and defined new opportunities to enhance existing tourism assets in the area.
“It’s a first step towards building a grassroots Indigenous tourism destination for the Blackfoot Confederacy Nations. We are excited to see how our region will grow as a destination by having all of our tourism assets and resources compiled in a database and mapped out along key economic corridors.
