ITO Seasons & Senses Youth Tourism Program

CES was hired by Indigenous Tourism Ontario (ITO) to create a light, hands-on, and fun program for Indigenous youth to learn about Indigenous tourism and be inspired to consider a career in the industry. The program runs throughout the school year and is guided by teachers and educational leaders. It encompasses 6 Moments (workshops) that intricately weave touch, hearing, sight, taste, smell, and spiritual connection with culture, all within the rhythm of the changing seasons. By showcasing a broad understanding of different sectors within Indigenous tourism through student-led learning, this program inspires career paths, builds confidence, and preserves culture and traditions, while fostering a deep appreciation for the natural world.

The purpose of this program is to provide a fun, engaging, and inspiring learning journey for Indigenous youth, featuring hands-on, land-based, sensory-rich activities. It aims to reinforce their bond with the natural cycles of the land and inspire them to explore careers in tourism. The program seeks to enhance awareness and understanding of the Indigenous tourism industry, highlighting its role in cultural preservation and the various career pathways available. Additionally, it offers opportunities for student-driven learning and leadership development, designed to boost confidence, and empower the youth.
